Atlantic Canadian athletes make waves on the world stage 

From the pool to the ice, the track to the sea, Atlantic Canadian athletes have once again shown their strength and excellence on the international stage. Throughout October, athletes supported by the Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic (CSIA) represented Canada with pride, earning podium finishes and standout performances at major world championships and international events.

Para Swimming success for Danielle Dorris

New Brunswick’s Danielle Dorris delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships, bringing home three medals — Gold in the 50m Butterfly S7, Silver in the 100m Backstroke S7, and Bronze in the 50m Freestyle S7. Her consistency and determination continue to place her among the best in the world.

Dominance on the ice for Courtney Sarault

Also from New Brunswick, Courtney Sarault shone on the ISU Short Track World Tour in Montreal, capturing four Gold medals and one Silver across individual and relay events over two weekends of competition. Her results mark an exceptional start to her season and reinforce her status as one of Canada’s top short track skaters.

Podium performances in Para Athletics and Sailing

Nova Scotia’s Katie Pegg earned a Bronze medal in the Women’s Shotput F46 at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, while sailing sisters Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance (NS) claimed Bronze medals in the 49erFX class at the World Sailing Championships in Italy.

Strong results across disciplines

Beyond the podium, several other Atlantic athletes showcased exceptional performances:

  • Sarah Mitton (NS) – 4th in Women’s Shotput at the World Athletics Championships
     
  • Natasha Sexton (NS) – 4th with Team Canada at the WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup
     
  • Carleigh Hiltz (NS) – 5th in Women’s Shotput F37 at the World Para Athletics Championships
     
  • Ellie Black (NS) – 5th on Balance Beam at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta; Ellie was also presented with the 2024 Olympic Fair Play Award, celebrating her integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship
     
  • Chloe Dunbar (NS) – Strong showings in the Women’s 100m (15th) and 200m (11th) T47 events at the World Para Athletics Championships
     
  • Samantha Stewart (NB) – 21st in Women’s 57kg Wrestling at the Senior World Championships in Croatia
     
  • Madeline Gillis  (NS) – 25th in Nacra 17 at the World Sailing Championships with teammates Galen Richardson
