Sport PEI opens ‘Performance Hub’ to strengthen athlete, coach development
2023 Canada Games Performance Hub to host Grand Opening, athlete combine on November 6 & 7
CHARLOTTETOWN, October 27, 2025 - Sport PEI will be opening the 2023 Canada Games Legacy Performance Hub, a new facility equipped with state-of-the-art testing equipment, to the general public beginning November 6th.
The 2023 Canada Games Legacy Performance Hub, located at Royalty Centre (40 Enman Crescent, Charlottetown), will host two events to kick off its official opening; a testing combine for athletes ages 12-18 (November 6th & 7th) and a Grand Opening reception for the general public (3pm-6pm, November 7th).
The facility is staffed by Sport Performance Coordinator Spencer House and is dedicated to advancing sport in Prince Edward Island through:
● Performance Planning – Supporting coaches, teams, and organizations in developing athlete, team, and program performance plans.
● Athlete Health & Performance – Expanding access to health and performance experts, and offering professional development for coaches, athletes, and sport leaders.
● Athlete Testing – Providing testing opportunities to assess and enhance athlete, team, and organizational performance.
Coaches, teams, and/or organizations will be able to purchase testing packages, which include planning sessions with House, priced by the amount of sessions committed to. Packages include Single Test ($15/athlete), Season Tests ($30 per athlete), and 2027 Canada Games Tests ($50/athlete).
“Having a performance plan is like having a map to the top of the mountain,” says House. “It allows for coaches, athletes, and technical leaders to be on the same page with a road to where they want to go with performance.”
The facility and its programming have been made possible through funding from the 2023 Canada Games Legacy Committee.
“Our goal of building capacity and providing support to our member organizations, coaches and athletes would not be possible without the support of the 2023 Legacy Fund”, says Sport PEI Executive Director Gemma Koughan. “We are extremely grateful to the Legacy Committee for supporting this project.”
Testing equipment at the facility is supplied by VALD Performance and uses technology trusted in high-performance organizations around the world to measure, manage and improve teams’ and athletes’ strength, power, movement, balance, asymmetry and more. The equipment available at The Hub includes:
● Forcedecks – Portable force plate system that can be used to analyze jumps, strength, power, asymmetry and more.
● Dynamo - handheld dynamometers and inclinometers that can test strength and range of motion.
● ForceFrame - Strength testing device for every major joint in the body.
● SmartSpeed – Timing gate system for measuring speed, agility and reactivity.
● HumanTrak - 3D motion capture and biomechanical analysis camera and system.
